Drivers play a very crucial role in a computer system. The drivers serve as the translator between the computer’s operating system and its hardware. Drivers speak machine language. It is through this set of programs that your computer can function with each and every one of the devices attached to it such as the video card, sound card, and printer, among others.
Needless to say, the functionality of the device relies greatly on how its driver performs. Good and updated drivers are ideal. Old and corrupted drivers, on the other hand, tend to cause errors that can cripple your computer system.
Wrong and faulty drivers installed in your computer could cause the following errors:
1. Hardware conflicts
When hardware conflicts occur, the hardware device would simply stop working. The computer is assigned a memory resource which it will use to transmit data for processing. When another device uses the same resource, a conflict occurs. And one of those devices has to stop working in order to give way to the other. Usually, the device that is vital to make the computer run is given higher priority.
2. Buffer errors, kernel errors, and BSOD errors
Buffer errors and BSOD errors are evident errors displayed on your screen whenever the computer encounters problems in accessing the device it needs. BSOD means blue screen of death. It is the worse error that you would encounter because it might force you to reinstall your operating system just to correct it. For all other errors, reinstalling, updating, and changing your drivers may do the trick.
3. Computer instability
Faulty drivers may have bugs that could make your compute unstable. If your computer freezes all the time or restarts on its own, there are high chances that outdating drivers are causing it. Try to update the suspected faulty driver and see if the problem disappears.
4. Registry errors
Everything installed in your computer – from the simplest programs to the most complex ones – are listed in the system registry. If a driver is faulty, it could mess the registry, causing major errors on the operating system. The problem could cause your computer not to boot properly or your other programs not to run. Severe registry errors may also merit an operating system reinstall.
To prevent any of these errors from occurring, it is best that you make sure that each one of the drivers installed on your computer is updated and functional.
