Drivers Can Cause Software Errors

DiskFloppy2Software relies on drivers for it to be able to perform the tasks that it is designed for. A good example would be a photo editing software. Such software needs to interact with the video card and the monitor in order to provide graphical precision and color correctness when rendering photos. If the drivers are not working at par, then there will be software errors coming out of the screen as generated by the software.

Scanning software also rely on the functions of the scanner driver. If in case you have failed to load the drivers of the scanner but have successfully uploaded to software to use it with, then there will be an error popping out of the screen talking about kernel error or device driver not found.

Most of the online crash analysis on Windows is caused by certain device drivers as well. If you’d look deeper into the error report, Windows would indicate that it’s a problem with one or more of the newly installed hardware on your computer. The problem could either be the device itself or just the drivers not working properly alongside Windows.

This is the main reason why Windows enforces the driver signing procedure. Device manufacturers are asked to submit their drivers to Windows for licensing. Here, Windows would review the program that is embedded into the drivers and rule whether or not it’s fully compatible with their platform or not. If it passes their standards and if it will not cause software crashes, then they would sign the drivers.

Driver signing is not mandatory for hardware device manufacturers though. It is very much possible to load drivers that doesn’t have Microsoft’s signature. However, Windows will prompt the user during installation telling him that the drivers are not signed by Microsoft and may cause system crashes.

Choosing the right device drivers for your computer is the key to prevent software errors. While software errors can be caused by a lot of reasons and not just drivers alone, the ones caused by the drivers are the hardest ones to repair. Driver errors are way deep into the system. Sometimes, even Microsoft needs further analysis to find out which of the many drivers loaded into your computer is particularly generating the error.

A fresh install of the operating system would force you to reinstall drivers one by one. This would solve the issue, but it could be such a big task, not to mention that you are at the risk of losing all your files and the more important programs that are already installed in your computer.
